Remember the days when it was faux pas to have one major console interact with another? Well it’s not anymore! Big news for cross platform gaming and communities. Microsoft is set to launch software development kit (SDK), as early as next month, that would allow game developers to bring Xbox Live elements to their games.
What does this mean for gamers? This could take Xbox Live to a whole new level bringing friends lists, achievements, and more multiplayer functionality to platforms other than Xbox. Some form of this already exists in Minecraft for the Nintendo Switch as well as mobile devices.
How quickly this is adopted and what features will be included remain to be seen, but we will continue to follow this story as it develops. The SDK is set to be shown at the Game Developers Conference session entitled “Xbox Live: Growing & Engaging Your Gaming Community Across Platforms (Presented by Microsoft)” in San Francisco, CA which runs from March 18th through March 22nd.
