Reading Time: < 1 minute

Yesterday, Konami announced that they are releasing a TurboGrafx-16 mini console. Like the other mini consoles on the market players will have the ability to “Quick Save” at any point of a game and play in different display modes like 4:3 or appear that your playing on a CRT TV. The multitap device will be available for this console to allow up to five players at a time. This will be sold separately and no price point has been set yet.

There are going to be three versions of the console for different markets. The US will see the TurboGrafx-16 mini, Europe will get the PC Engine Core Grafx and Japan will get the PC Engine mini. Konami only gave us a taste of what games will be released.

The US and European market will get:

  • R-Type
  • New Adventure Island
  • Ninja Spirit
  • Ys Book 1 & II
  • Dungeon Explorer
  • Alien Crush

Japan will have a different set of games such as:

  • Bonk’s Adventure
  • Dracula X
  • The Kung Fu/China Warrior
  • Ys Book 1 & II
  • Super Star Soldier
  • Dungeon Explorer

Turbografx-16 was originally released in Japan in 1987 and in the US in 1989 designed by Hudson Soft to compete with the Super Nintendo and the Sega Genesis as they were both 16 bit systems like the TurboGrafx-16. It’s no doubt that with the popularity of these mini consoles we will hopefully see more like a GameCube, Nintendo 64, PlayStation 1 (with better games) and a Virtual Boy. ha!
