Update: Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is now available a day early in the US. Go grab it!!!!
Grab your robes and wands, Niantic is launching Harry Potter: Wizards Unite in the United Kingdom and United States June 21st! Niantic is behind the ever popular AR experience Pokémon Go where players collect Pokémon and fight in Gyms completing epic battles for rare Pokémon and items.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will be similar to Pokémon Go but won’t be a complete re-skin of the original title. Throughout the real world players will find locations that have magical Traces. Where there are Traces players will be able to find Foundables (really?) and protect them safe and send them back to the magical world. Players will need to visit Inns to collect food and drinks that replenish their Spell Energy.
Wizards Unite will also have a type of crafting system that will allow players to create potions that will have special abilities through the game. The ingredients available will be influenced by the environment, time of day, and weather. There will also be Greenhouses that will house special ingredients as well.
As for multiplayer, players will be able to team up to fight off Death Eaters and Werewolves at Fortresses which will uncover even rarer Foundables, much like Gyms in Pokémon Go. Like many MMO’s, you’ll be able to select professions that will have different skill sets and be helpful at different times during a battle.
This will be the first of it’s kind to offer a full immersive 360-degree AR experience where through Portkeys that will enable players to visit key elements in the wizarding world like possibly Hogwarts or Ollivander’s Wand Shop. Awesome!
Friday is the start to the weekend and what better way to start it off by dodging some muggles and defending the wizarding world. Keep your eyes peeled to the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store for download details. Android owners are able to pre-register for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite now.
