Big Ubisoft news today with a nice Far Cry 6 leak! Numerous keen eyed gamers came across a PlayStation Store listing of Far Cry 6 which was, of course, quickly removed. Luckily screenshots of the original listing have surfaced on Twitter with some detail of what we can expect.
The listing shows a release date of February 18th, 2021 for the PlayStation 4 edition which undoubtedly means it will be released on Xbox One at the same time. With the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X due out this holiday season, the question remains; Will this be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Good news, the digital Far Cry 6 Standard Edition for PlayStation 4 will also include the PlayStation 5 version. That being said, we can assume the same will be done for the Xbox Series X.
What do we know so far? We know that Far Cry 6 will take place in a tropical paradise called Yara. Gameplay takes place across jungles, beaches and the capital city, Esperanza. Far Cry 6 is self proclaimed to be the biggest map of all previous Far Cry games.
The antagonist, dictator Anton Castillo is looking to restore his once great nation at any cost. He and his son, Diego’s, oppressive ruling has ignited a revolution with the locals. As local Yaran, Dani Rojas, you will employ makeshift weapons, vehicles and Amigos to take this nation back from the dictators grasp and end his treacherous rein.
Since the release of Far Cry 5 and the DLC Far Cry 5: New Dawn, we’ve been hoping that Ubisoft would not change the multiplayer co-op element in Far Cry 6 as it is one of the most enjoyable in any co-op game we’ve played to date. So far, it seems that 2 player online co-op play at least is still present. There is no support for local co-op according to the listing. It also appears that, like Far Cry 5, in game purchases are still present but to what extent is unknown.
Ubisoft all but announced the release of Far Cry 6 with their tweet today that states, “Anton would not be pleased.” Was this tweet a response to the leak or was this planned? Either way, it’s a great response! It seems that the official announcement will come Sunday at Ubisoft’s first all-digital conference, Ubisoft Forward. Hopefully, we will all have more information then. Stay tuned!
