At E3 2019 in California, EA Play treated us to 14 minutes Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gameplay today and while I’m very excited about what was shown, I didn’t see anything in the mechanics that left me feeling that this would be the future of Star Wars games. If you liked the look and feel of it’s predecessor, Battlefront 2, then you are certain to like the look and feel of this one too.
Combat and movement look pretty standard for these types of sword-fighting games. Thrust-parry-block, thrust-parry-block while in combat and of course climbing and running along walls to traverse the map.
Of course in any Star Wars game there are force powers which you more than likely level up with the skill points you earn while defeating enemies. Featured in the video were Force Push, Pull, Double Jump, and one where you can slow time.
I am most excited for this game because of its story, which is going to be considered Star Wars canon. In it you assume the role of Cal Kestis, a young Jedi in training who survived Order 66 and is now on a mission to restore the Jedi Order. This game takes place after Revenge of the Sith so expect to see some familiar faces make an appearance. In the gameplay video today we were treated to Saw Gerrera and a K-2 imperial security droid.
Unfortunately there will be no co-op play to this game and don’t expect to be able to make any choices that will truly effect the event within the game. We are simply playing through a story that must end the way it was intended to.
