PlayStation 5, perhaps a page out of Apple’s book, is not a very creative name. Sony has been using the PlayStation name for the past 25 years so why change it! It’s been working for the Apple iPhone, right? Has Sony shown some ingenuity with the PlayStation 5 logo? Nope!
Sony revealed the new PlayStation 5 logo at CES 2020 in Las Vegas and it looks very familiar. What do you think?
During the press conference, Sony also announced that the PlayStation 2 has a lifetime sales record of 158 million units whereas the PlayStation 4 has sold 104 million units. While its hard to believe that the PS4 has not outsold the PS2 yet, the PlayStation 2 was released in 2000 while the PlayStation 4 was released in 2013. PlayStation 2 has a 13 year head start. Not bad PlayStation 4! Along side the console numbers, 5 million PlayStation VR headsets have been sold since the launch in October 2016.
Very little of the PlayStation 5 is known at this time. We do know that it will support 8K gaming, include an SSD for fast loading and be released in late 2020. The new DualShock 5 will feature new haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, upgraded microphone & speaker. The idea is that the new console may have an upgraded voice control interface.
