Big News!! Albeit a bit obvious. The Fortnite Team announced yesterday that Fortnite will be a launch title on the next-generation consoles. The next-gen consoles, of course, being the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X.
While they didn’t get into many specifics, we do know a couple of key details. This will NOT be a new version of Fortnite. The biggest bit of info that will affect the fan-base is that they plan to support cross-progression across all platforms and console generations. In short, you’ll be able to bring all those purchased items over. They also have intentions to support cross platform as well as cross-generation play.
Of course they don’t want to set the expectation to high and not make them. The key point, however, is that they haven’t committed to having these items at launch but that they are working on it. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Like we mentioned earlier, this is not a new version of Fortnite. This version will be optimized to take full advantage of the new hardware and features of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Fortnite will then get an upgrade mid-2021 and be migrated to Unreal Engine 5. Check out the Unreal Engine 5 demo from yesterday.
