Update: Paper Mario: The Origami King is out now. Check out our first first impressions!
Nintendo took to the interwebs to announce a Paper Mario title will be coming to Nintendo Switch this year!
Paper Mario: The Origami King is set to debut on the Nintendo Switch on July 17th. In this new adventure, Mario and friends must defeat the Origami Kingdom ruler, King Olly. Mario’s friends include some old friends from previous Mario games but also some new ones. He will also find an ally in King Olly’s sister, Olivia as well as Bowser along his journey!
Mario will have new tools and and new abilities to help him on this new adventure. One of the abilities featured is called 1000-Fold Arms which allows him to interact with the landscape by “by stretching out and pulling, peeling and revealing new locations.”
Be sure to check out the trailer below. It includes an inside look of Peach’s castle that is very reminiscent of Super Mario 64.
The video shows off Paper Mario’s beautifully detailed landscapes in papery details. We not only get to see a glimpse of the Mushroom Kingdom, but a Flying Fortress, some of the his allies like the Koopalings, Kamek, and even Shy Guy. Sadly, there was no sign of Yoshi.
Another item to note was vehicle travel was evident. A boat and a car was shown as a Mario was traversing the land and sea. Paper Mario will feature turn-based battles, mini-games, and many mysteries to uncover. Should be a lot of fun.
Paper Mario: The Origami King is due out on the Nintendo eShop in stores on July 17th. Suggested retail price is, like always, $59.99. For more information check out https://papermario.nintendo.com/
