The PlayStation 5 event is back on. The unveil of the PlayStation 5 holiday line-up is being shown this Thursday June 11th on Twitch and YouTube at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST. For those of us on the East Coast that’s 4pm Eastern. The announcement came via the PlayStation 5 Twitter account, @PlayStation and the PlayStation blog earlier this afternoon.
This announcement comes a few days after Sony announced the delay of their virtual event amid the tragic death of George Floyd to not distract from key voices during this movement. Sadly many gamers took to Twitter to voice their dismay of whether or not this was a media ploy. Either way you slice it, it was the right thing to do.
A few key things to note regarding the event. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this will not be live and has been pre-recorded. It will be broadcast in 1080p at 30 frames per second. This, as you already know, is way below what the PlayStation 5 can output. Sid Shuman, Senior Director of SIE Content Communications, explained that “the games you see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on the PS5 with a 4K TV.” Sid also recommended that when viewing the event to wear headphones to enjoy the audio work that has been put into the show.
We are expecting to see a first look at the games coming this holiday season but it is unknown if we will actually see an actual PlayStation 5 instead of the dev units we are accustomed to.
