The Medium Brings Dual Reality Gameplay

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We heard about The Medium way back in May where the developer, Bloober Team, said they had more tricks to reveal and boy did they! Today, we learned what they have been working on and I have to admit, I am quite excited to give it a try. The Medium is the first to bring us dual reality gameplay – two worlds rendered at the same time with no visible load times.

Perception is key and perception is reality, but what if your perspective changed? That’s what The Medium intends on doing with its dual reality gameplay where the two worlds “can be rendered, displayed and interacted with, and explored at the same time.” As players progress through the game, they will be transferred in and out of the Spirit World without any visible load times. This feat, according to Wojciech Piejko, Lead Game Designer, was nearly impossible on previous generation hardware.

The Medium, a horror title, had me immediately thinking Heavy Rain from the PlayStation 3 which it’s not but it is as dark. Marianne, a medium is plagued with visions that bring her back to a abandoned hotel in Krakow, where a terrible tragedy happened years prior. Here she uses her special abilities like, Out of Body ability, to navigate, explore and solve this haunted puzzle.
