Loads of new information was released today during today’s Nintendo Direct. Super Mario Maker 2 not only include elements from Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and Super Mario Bros. U. It will also include elements from Super Mario 3D World. Super Mario 3D World will include different elements that are not included in the other elements like Cat Mario, clear pipes, crates, warp boxes, etc. Super Mario 3D World is so different that you cannot switch back and forth to the other styles like you could in the others.
Big news regarding Co-Op play! In local Co-Op players can team up using the Joy-Cons and work together in creating a level. This has the potential to be a lot of fun or create havoc when creative differences come in to play. Locally players will be able to play levels cooperatively or against each other in a race to the end. This mode can also be played over the Internet if you have a Nintendo Online account. Update: It was confirmed on 5/28/2019 that these modes can only be played with random players and not friends. See Article: No Friends Play Online Super Mario Maker 2.
Players with Nintendo Online accounts will be able to upload levels and get rated by other players. The higher your rated the more ‘Maker Points’ you get to be able to customize your ‘Maker Profile.’ There will also be challenges, leaderboards, and as mentioned earlier cooperative play.
Super Mario Maker 2 is a huge improvement over the original Super Mario Maker with all the new options like Angry Sun, night modes, slopes, stackable mobs, etc. Be sure to watch the entire Nintendo Direct 5-15-19 – Super Mario Maker 2 for all the updates. Definitely worth watching. Super Mario Maker 2 is due out June 28th, 2019 for the Nintendo Switch.
